About Celine

French luxury house Celine was founded in 1945 by Celine Vipiana as a made-to-measure children's shoe business. The Celine ready-to-wear line debuted in the 1960s. In 1997, American designer Michael Kors was named the first Celine women's ready-to-wear designer and creative director. Kors developed an acclaimed ready-to-wear line along with blockbuster accessories. Under his leadership, Celine became known for luxurious, glamorous women's wear and sales grew to a record high.

In 2004, Italian Designer Roberto Menchettie took over for Kors and was named creative director. His designs were a vast departure from Kors' glamorous ideas to an experimental, steamlined style. Menchetti did not impress and was replaced by Croatian designer Ivana Omazic, a former consultant for Celine who had previously worked with Prada, Jill Sander and Miu Miu. The company felt that Omazic did not transform the brand into a flagship of fashion and on September 4, 2008, Pheobe Philo was appointed new creative director of Celine by influential fashion group WWD Fashion. Philo's line will debut in the Spring/Summer season of 2009.

Today, Celine is an international luxury goods brand. The company has many A-list clients and markets must-have products that are often on waiting lists.
